Scotland v NZ History

These two fine nations have met on only two occasions.

Unlike rugby union where the two countries meet on a semi-regular basis, football sees Scotland and New Zealand play almost never.

The first was in 1982 when NZ made the World Cup Finals in Spain for the first time in it's fledging history.  Down 3-0 at half-time the Kiwis made a stunning comeback with two goals to Sumner and Woodin.  Sadly our goalkeeper was pants and we were a touch out of our depth.

The two goals against Scotland were the only scored in this tournament.

The Kiwis also played Brazil and the USSR and were never going to match these super-powers.

In 2003 they met again in our very own Tynecastle Stadium.

Don't know much about the result but apparently NZ were unlucky not to win.

Never mind, hopefully they come up against each other soon.

Current FIFA rankings: (as at 15/8/05)

Scotland 85th
New Zealand 107th
